Charlie Kirk Posted a Chilling Message Only Minutes Before His Death

In what now feels tragically symbolic, Kirk’s final post on X (formerly Twitter) addressed another act of violence that had made national headlines just weeks earlier.

He wrote about Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old woman who had fled war-torn Ukraine for safety and a new beginning in the United States. Zarutska was stabbed and killed on a train in North Carolina late last month, sparking outrage when it was revealed that her attacker had a long criminal history.

Kirk’s words were both urgent and unapologetically political:

“If we want things to change, it’s 100% necessary to politicize the senseless murder of Iryna Zarutska because it was politics that allowed a savage monster with 14 priors to be free on the streets to kill her.”

Hours later, Kirk himself became the victim of violence. For many, the timing of his final words feels chilling — as if he had unknowingly foreshadowed his own fate.

The Shooting at Utah Valley University

Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, became the site of chaos as students and faculty scrambled for safety in the aftermath of the shooting. Officials said the gunman fired from the top of the Losee Center building, approximately 200 feet away from the stage where Kirk sat.

Thousands of attendees were present, and the scene quickly descended into panic. Videos from inside the event hall show students dropping to the floor as security rushed toward Kirk.

UVU immediately locked down the campus. Students were offered police escorts as they attempted to leave, while law enforcement, including tactical units, swarmed the grounds.

Despite early reports that a suspect had been detained, officials later clarified that the gunman remains at large. A separate video circulating online showed an elderly man being arrested by police at the scene. However, UVU spokesperson Scott Trotter confirmed that the man was not believed to be the shooter.

The Investigation

The Justice Department has launched a full investigation into the incident, with federal and local authorities combing through evidence, witness testimony, and social media footage.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche described the shooting as a “senseless act of violence,” emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to finding and prosecuting the individual responsible.

As of Thursday morning, officials have not released the shooter’s identity or any potential motive.

Eyewitness Accounts

Witnesses have described both the horror of the shooting and the confusion that followed. Justin Hickens, who attended the event, told NBC News:

“I saw him get shot in the neck, and then I saw a bunch of blood come out of Charlie. His body just kind of kicked back and went limp, and everybody dropped to the ground. Then I saw officers walking with an elderly man with white hair. They had him arrested, they had him on his knees, and he was screaming about his rights.”

The conflicting images — Kirk wounded on stage, an elderly man being dragged away, and law enforcement flooding the campus — added to the panic and uncertainty of the moment.
